Description

Just look at that knowing grin.  I must know what he's thinking! XD

This adorable pony, as I'm sure many of you are aware, is Zanon-Shadow-Veil's OC Zanon, as he appears in Pepooni's Teen Zanon.

He is made from 1/4th inch thick Baltic Birch plywood (those of you going through my gallery will start to notice a trend ^_^ But hey! If it ain't broke...), and stands about 8 inches tall.

The first time I cut this character, I didn't have anywhere near the experience or processes in place to help with file creation.  Needless to say, it looked awful (aweful? Nah, just plain bad.) About the only thing you could see were the whites of his eyes, and all of the lines left these deep canyons in the wood (removing wood when it was supposed to be darkening it).  There was certainly no shading in the mane or tail.  I was dreading having to go back and tell :iconzanon-shadow-veil: that it wasn't going to work.

I am glad I kept at it though, as this has to be one of my favorite pieces!  This character has such personality, and the design juxtaposes light and dark features in a wonderful and unique mix.  Trying to improve the contrast of this cut led me to create much of the file making process that I use today.  I've had a great deal of fun on this project, and I wanted to thank Zanon (the person, not the OC!) for indulging me along the way. I hope you like it :D

Hiya. I just checked in and saw your wood burning pictures. They are so cool! That's a really interesting idea, and it looks fantastic!

Actually given that you called it a laser cut.. Is the shading done with wood burning, or do you cut the indents and use some kind of pigment/stain/paint or something?
